Back in May, we provided a detailed guide on how to secure a race day success by using our model batteries or, as they are sometimes called, lipo batteries. However, we later realised that to the uninitiated, exactly what radio control cars are, how they are used and how our batteries work to benefit them might seem rather confusing.

As such, we have decided to detail a guide illustrating what radio control cars are, how they are used and why our batteries are so important for them. So, without further ado, let’s look at the functions of radio controlled cars in more depth.

What Are Radio Controlled Cars?

For those of you not in the know, radio controlled cars, or RC cars for short, are miniature model vehicles which are controlled by a separate specialised transmitter and/or remote. The RC is technically short for either remote control or radio control cars.

Although they are commonly referred to as cars, the models themselves can be a variety of different vehicles. They can be trucks, vans, racecars, buggies and buses. In fact, many users have started quite the vast collection of RC controlled cars.

Furthermore, there are actually some special editions of various vehicles. From miniature versions of Formula 1 cars to faithful recreations of evel knievel on his famous bikes. In fact, model car collections are quite big business and you will be surprised by some of the unique models available.

How Are They Powered

Radio controlled cars can be powered by a variety of different sources. Electric models are powered by a very small but powerful electric motor. They can also be powered by rechargeable batteries. These batteries can have nickel-cadmium, nickel metal hydride and lithium polymer cells.

At Vapextech, our model batteries include our fantastically high quality lipo batteries. For those who are unaware, lipo means rechargeable cells that use a solid polymer for the electrolyte and/or lithium for one of the electrodes.

The brilliant Lipo batteries have many batteries which include having 4 times the energy density of nickel cadmium and nickel metal hydride batteries. The batteries are also lightweight and pliable meaning they can be made to just about any battery size and shape.

Because of this, we proudly stock a variety of different voltages and battery sizes. From 4.8 to 7.2v batteries to 6v batteries all the way to 14v editions, we have a plethora of sizes and shapes to fit your needs. In addition to the different voltage and lipo batteries, we also stock transmitter, large power and receiver packs.

With so many different model batteries available, we thought it perhaps best to break down the different types of batteries and how they benefit your RC cars.

Transmitter Packs

Our transmitter packs are available straight out of the pack. Furthermore, even if they are not used over a 12 month period, they will retain up to 80% of the charge. Our transmitter packs do not lose charge, even when they are pushed to the max. The high capacity low self discharge makes them one of, if not the best, choice for your radio control car power source.

Large Power Packs

Our large power packs are made up of varying degrees of configurations of sub c cells. The c cells, which are usually between 23 mm in diameter and 43 mm in length, are grouped together to form large power packs. Our Large power packs come in a variety of sizes including the previously mentioned 6v batteries.

Lipo Car Packs

Our Lipo car packs are proudly approved by the BRCA. The BRCA, or British Radio Car  Association to use the organisation's longer full name, is the organisation body for all things model car related in the UK. The fact that our batteries are approved by such a prestigious association is beyond impressive.

Receiver Packs

Our receiver packs can withstand being to the absolute limit. They are perfect for a huge range of models including helicopters, cars and aeroplanes.

Why Do People Use Radio Control Cars

There are all manners of reasons people choose to have radio control cars. Some use these famous models for racing and competition purposes. While others prefer to focus purely on aesthetics by taking them to conventions and/or shows.

Others prefer to purely collect unique and rare model cars. These include unique special editions cars as well as otherwise special models.
